Tips for Making a Movie on Your iPhone

Making a quality movie on your cellular phone used to be pretty much unheard of, but not anymore. If you happen to be one of the millions of people with an iPhone, you have the ability to make a movie right from this innovative device. From the iPhone 4’s two cameras to the endless available apps, making a movie has never been easier. The following tips will give you some advice for making a movie on your iPhone.

Understanding Your Device

Before you get started making a movie on your iPhone, you should take a minute to understand your device and what features you will be utilizing. First of all, the iPhone has two cameras that make it easy to shoot still photos and videos of others and yourself. You should know that while both cameras have the ability to shoot video at 30 frames per second, that is where their similarities end. The rear-facing camera will definitely be the camera you want to use when making a movie, since it has the ability to record in high-definition at 720p. This means the quality of your movie will be pretty exceptional, being as your phone is acting as your video camera. The front-facing camera is limited to shooting VGA-quality video, which will not produce results as impressive as the rear-facing camera. It is very simple to shoot a video from your iPhone. All you have to do is open the built-in camera app, make sure it is set to video, tap the screen as you would to take a still photo, and start shooting.

Recording Movies

Even though recording a movie on your iPhone is fairly straightforward, there are some things to keep in mind. You will probably want to hold your iPhone in a horizontal position, as it will make the process easier and produce more “movie-like” results. Also be sure to keep your movie subjects and background well lit. If you happen to be recording at night, you can always use your camera’s flash as a light. To focus clearly on your subjects and background, always tap your screen until both are clear and ready to be recorded. After recording, you can review your movie by clicking on the video thumbnail on your iPhone’s screen. From there you can choose to continue recording, edit your movie, or publish it.

Editing Movies

Once you are finished recording your movie, you will be able to edit it using some fabulous apps. That is, of course, what the iPhone is all about. While there are various movie-editing apps available, one that offers ease of use for beginners is iMovie. Since it comes from Apple itself, you will not have to worry about any compatibility issues whatsoever. iMovie allows you to drag and drop the clips from your movie until they are exactly where you want them to be. It also gives you the ability to add certain effects and transitions to your movie. For more advanced video editors, there are many other editing apps for your iPhone such as Splice and Video Edit. After your movie is complete and edited to your specifications, you can choose to send it to others or upload it to your favorite social network.
Making a movie on your iPhone is really not as difficult as you may think. Given the advanced features of the iPhone and countless helpful apps, you can easily make a movie in no time at all.
